The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ September Payroll Survey reported a seasonally adjusted gain of -33,000 jobs, -40,000 in the private sector. Prior month revisions: August total jobs growth was revised up by 13,000 from a gain of 156,000 to a gain of 169,000 . July growth was revised down by 51,000 from a gain of 189,000 to a gain of 138,000 .
