August retails sales were today reported by the Census Department as having risen by $906M or 0.2% compared with the (revised) July figure.
Of the $906M gain, $737M came from Auto & Other Vehicle sales, representing a 1.0% monthly rise in that sector

July’s numbers were revised significantly upwards – by around $1billion – producing a new July/June growth of 0.43% (previously reported in last month’s Census release as a 0.20% increase). Most of the upward revisions came from two sectors: Non-store Retailers, and Building Materials & Garden Equipment Suppliers.
