November’s retail sales were today reported by the Census Department as having risen by $2,920M or 0.7% on a seasonally-adjusted basis, compared with the (revised) October figure.  For more numbers and charts, visit the Retail Sales Dataset page.

October’s gain in sales was revised up to 0.6% from the previously reported 0.4%.

Half of the increase came from the category of Motor Vehicle & Parts Dealers, which rose by $1,508M (1.8%)  Sales in this category were revised down in October from $1,056M to $896M.

Without the contribution of this category, overall retail sales still rose by a steady 0.4%, 0.5% and 0.4% in the past three consecutive months.

Sales at Gasoline Stations  once again dropped.  The chart below shows the distribution of sales growth across different categories for the past three months. As can be seen, the Motor Vehicle & Parts category dominates.
